Joey has had the chicks for two weeks now. They are now three weeks old. Most of the downy is gone and new big girl feathers are coming in quickly. All nine chicks are healthy and happy. You're doing a great job Joey! They will be living indoors for a few more weeks. That gives Joey and his grandpa very little time to build the coop and hen house. But with Joey's help, grandpa will get it done in no time.

Fresh Air For the Chicks

It was so warm outside that Joey thought the baby chicks should get some fresh air. He put them carefully on the sidewalk and encouraged them to walk around.

Sassy is afraid of the dirt and wanted to stay on the sidewalk. But, Joey carefully placed the scared chick with the rest of them so she too could learn to scratch for bugs.

Every chance Sassy got she went right back to the sidewalk. But Joey just kept encouraging her to go back with the other chicks.

Sassy finally walked off into the dirt. No sooner than she got the courage to go in the dirt...

...it was time to gather up all the chicks and get them back inside under the heat lamp.

Joey Teaching Chicks To Be Friendly

Every morning before school Joey plays with the chickens. They are getting more and more friendly.

Every afternoon he continues to teach them to trust him.

Every evening before he goes to bed he holds each chick, pets them and works on getting them to bond with him.

Last evening I think he accomplished that. JoJo trusts Joey so much that she tells him all of her secrets.

Now that JoJo trusts Joey, all the other chicks are following her lead. Joey can even play cards with Grammy and they still feel safe being with him.

Hen House And Coop Supplies

Joey and his grandpa just got back from the lumber store. Grandpa and Joey are off to a great start on building Joey's hen house and chicken coop.

Joey helped with all the long 2x4's but this piece is way too big.

As much as Joey tries, it just won't budge. Joey thinks he should go get grammy so she can help them.

Sick Baby Chick

Sassy is feeling under the weather. We will be calling the veterinarian today to see what we can do to help her.
