Picture Day At Four Weeks

The chicks are now a month old. Joey has been raising them for 3 weeks now. They have grown so much in such a short time. Their downy is pretty much gone and they're getting fully feathered. They each still have a little fluffy downy around their heads. Their feet are huge and their talons are getting sharp. Each chick has their own distinct personality. That's been one of Joey's favorite things about the chicks. They are each so unique.
Eleanor is very friendly and rules the roost even though she was the smallest chick just weeks ago. She is the bossy one but not snooty. She better enjoy her leader of the pack position because once the rooster starts to crow she will be put in her place. She is an Ameraucana.

JoJo is the sweetest chick and the most timid. She is very gentle and best friends with Hark. The two of them will definitely be partners in crime once they get a hen house and coop outside. She looks a little awkward right now but she has great confidence that she will be a beauty in just a few short weeks. JoJo is either an Ameraucana or a Cornish Hen. We have to wait till she is fully grown to know for sure.

Zoey is still Joey's favorite. She is scared of everything and wears the name chicken real well. She is the first of the three Plymouth Rock chicks to become speckled.

Beaker is having a rough go at the awkward stage as well. She has a bit of a curl on her head that is reminiscent of a cockatiel. She is very friendly. If you hold your hand out in front of her she will gladly come to you and wants to be held. She is the fastest of all the chicks. Her and Sassy seem to stick together. Beaker sits on top of the feeder and looks down upon the rest of the chicks, even the rooster at this stage. Beaker is a Plymouth Rock.

Sassy wears her name well. She loves to cuddle though. She is a bit of a loner probably because she started out so small. The other chicks tend to ignore her. But she is slowly working her way into the pecking order. Joey calls her Sassafras just for fun. She is a Plymouth Rock.

Hark is very nosy. She doesn't want to be held or paid attention to much but she loves to stick her beak in the other chicks' business. Hark is a Ameraucana.

Merida is quiet and minds her own business. She sticks with the other Rhode Island Reds. The three RIR's usually keep to themselves. They are quiet and gentle by nature.

And then we have Penny the rooster. He will more than likely rule the roost pretty soon. Right now he has no clue he is a rooster. Eleanor has no clue he is a rooster either. I'm sure the two of them will be having it out in a few weeks. I can tell you that Penny will come out the new leader of the flock. Penny is a Rhode Island Red.

Belle still has lots of downy on her head and tummy. She is quiet and likes to be with Penny and Merida. She prefers not to be held or bothered. She is a Rhode Island Red.

Not too long ago the chicks could easily sit in the palm of Joey's hand. This is Joey spending tummy time with a few of the chicks a few weeks ago. It's difficult to take photos of baby chicks. Their heads flutter constantly. But here are a few fun photos from the past week:
